Charming country July weddings

I designed bespoke stationery in watercolour for two traditional British country weddings that took place this July, but both with a fun and uplifting twist.

Sam & Tom: 12th July 2025

Both sets of couples chose the same Trifold format for their invitation, mapping out an ‘order of the day’ from the church ceremony, to dancing in the marquee. Sam & Tom’s setting is largely the garden surrounding Sam’s family home, with flower beds, a pond, the Thames in the background, and the giant chess board! Over a few meetings, we decided on some extra personal touches, including an ‘off the market’ sign, and a small plane speeding through the sky to symbolise their upcoming honeymoon. We also added motifs for events throughout the day: live music, different cocktails, and the late-night fire pit. Sam & Tom chose my handwriting to note the timings for the day, which has a down-to-earth and whimsical effect.

I was lucking enough to attend Sam & Tom’s wedding, and what a joy it was! I felt like I was stepping right into my illustrations. The garden looked exquisite, and everything went beautifully. Here are some pictures from the day:

George & Karina: 19th July 2025

George & Karina’s invitation has a dynamic composition, entirely self-contained within the one piece of double-sided Trifold card. The ‘order of the day’ has more of a map effect, with signposts to the nearest towns, and pubs where guests might book rooms or enjoy a pre-wedding pint! It was important to George that we include the wedding car, lent to him by his Dad for the day, while Karina loved the idea of adding her family whippet, running alongside them as they wave from the car. As the couple met playing polo, horses would be a recurring theme throughout the wedding, so I illustrated their own horses from photos, included them grazing as well as on the polo field.

The front of the reverse side has a formal invitation in calligraphy, surrounded by a border of the bride’s favourite flowers (found in her mother’s garden, and some from her bouquet.) The choice to use calligraphy creates a sophisticated and more classical touch, made contemporary alongside the colourful illustration. We also included two sides of extra information and timings, with calligraphy titles and a smart, legible font.

I also designed two menus for the day, and wrote the table names (different polo clubs) out in calligraphy. The Cocktail Menu (left) is set between evening and sunset, with twinkling stars, and the two bands set to play at the wedding. The Dinner Menu (right) refers to themes from the invitation along with fruit branches, wine and the hog roast.

The day itself looked wonderful! I was thrilled to receive the photos below:
